How to Set Up Stepped Rules?

EG provides a way to construct stepped rules; these rules only trigger when a cart value or product quantity falls between an upper and lower threshold. Creating multiple rules like these gives your customers an incentive for buying more products or spending more money by gifting a more attractive gift at each step.

Use case:

  • For cart values between $50 and $100 receive a free tote bag.

  • Cart values between $100.01 and $200 receive a free phone case.

  • And finally, cart values over $200.01 receive a free t-shirt.

Interested in setting up some stepped rules like this? Here’s how:

Step 1: Create a cart value trigger rule that automatically adds a product to a cart

Open the EG app from the Shopify admin page. Create a new rule and name it appropriately. Set the rule trigger to 'Cart value'.

Step 2: Set the thresholds for the cart

  1. Set the minimum cart trigger threshold for the rule to activate at.

  2. Check the ‘Add an upper cart value limit’ option.

  3. Set the upper cart value threshold – the cart value when exceeded means the rule will no longer apply.

Step 3: Set your rule action

Decide which products you want to add for this step.

Step 4: Set other rule options

Apply any additional options you want, like scheduled times, magic links, etc. A more extensive list of instructions applying additional settings can be found here.

Save your rule.

Step 5: Repeat this set of steps for the next step rule

Follow this set of steps again to create each of the next steps you want to create.
