How EG Rule Geotargeting Works
Updated 1 week ago
Merchants on the Unlimited plan (and above) can apply geotargeting to their rules.
Geotargeting lets you:
Target customers in specific countries
Exclude customers from certain countries so they can’t trigger a rule
How Geotargeting Works
EG geotargeting is powered by data from the Shopify window object.
Specifically, it looks at the
countrykey, which holds the two-letter ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code (for example, in the screenshot below,GBfor the United Kingdom).

This country value comes from your store’s localisation settings, which depend on:
The country selected by the customer in the country selector (if enabled).
Your shop’s default country, if no selection has been made.
EG then applies the geotargeting logic you’ve set for your rule.
Important Note
Geotargeting only applies before checkout.
Example: If a rule is set to only work in the USA, and a customer triggers it on the storefront, the rule will apply.
But if that customer changes their address to Canada at checkout, the rule will not be reversed.
